New 3D Model Atmospheres for the SDSS Milky Way Mapper Survey

The ERC ELEMENTS and the MTA-ELTE Lendület Milky Way Research groups will be working to create a new grid of state-of-the-art 3D model atmospheres and synthetic spectra of stars. These new grids will be used by the Milky Way Mapper survey, part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, to measure the chemical composition of all stellar populations in our Galaxy by observing 5 million stars by 2027. This is a joint project between the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy and the Eötvös Loránd University.
