The second SLICES-RI Summer School took place in Oulu, Finland this June. Participants had the unique opportunity to experiment with some of the cutting-edge SLICES infrastructures remotely from their own laptops. SZTAKI colleagues introduced participants to the reference architecture concept on the ELKH Cloud.
More than 40 students attended the three-day-long Summer School organised by SLICES-RI that focused on efficient wireless communication and computing experimental research in the 6G-era, supported by the European Strategic Forum of Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Attendees had the chance to familiarise themselves with the distinctive research tools SLICES-RI offers in order to support conducting experimental research. The hands-on sessions allowed students to learn about best practices of experiment planning and data handling and the novel, groundbreaking concepts paving the way beyond 5G towards the 6G communication and computing ecosystem.
15+ speakers from different research infrastructures (IMDEA/UC3M, imec, INRIA, IoTLab/MI, PSNC), universities (Ghent University, Sorbonne University, Technical University of Munich, University of Amsterdam, University of Oulu, University of Thessaly) and companies (COSMOTE, NOKIA) gave valuable insights about digital twins, 5G networks and beyond, cloud solutions, GPU testbeds, GDPR compliance, research data management and FAIR principles among other topics.
SZTAKI experts Márk Emődi and Attila Farkas gave a presentation on the reference architecture concept of the ELKH Cloud. The detailed agenda of the Summer School is available on the SLICES-SC website.
Next year, the Summer School is relocating to Italy, keep an eye on the registration announcement in early 2024! Meanwhile, recordings of the first SLICES Summer School and presentations of this year’s edition are accessible via the recently launched SLICES Academy website (find the videos under Training Events).
