The first national HUN-REN Cloud Meetup was held at the HUN-REN Wigner Research Center for Physics in Csillebérc, Budapest, where the most prominent scientific projects using the research infrastructure were presented along with the development plans for 2025.
The first-ever HUN-REN Cloud Meetup was held for the first time on November 28, 2024, accommodating the development of one of the most significant Hungarian research infrastructures and its existing and potential users to Csillebérc, Budapest. Dr. Péter Lévai, Director General of the HUN-REN Wigner Research Center for Physics, highlighted the HUN-REN Cloud infrastructure's prominent role in increasing scientific data assets. Dr. István Szabó, Deputy CEO for Strategy and Innovation of HUN-REN, emphasised the importance of the cloud in the spread of Open Science, and Dr. Róbert Lovas, Deputy Director of HUN-REN SZTAKI and Project Director of HUN-REN Cloud presented the strategic role of the cloud in domestic and international research. Ádám Pintér, Head of the Data Center of the HUN-REN Wigner Research Center for Physics, described the joint development plans for 2025.
The vast diversity of cloud users demonstrated that the HUN-REN Cloud is indeed a universal research infrastructure, far from field-specific but rather multi- and interdisciplinary. From the cultural evolution of birdsong, through plankton dynamics to active galactic nuclei, the featured research projects indicated a fairly heterogeneous picture of the application areas.
During the presentation of the 2025 plans, users were brought around the idea that a concrete, AI-oriented concept is available for the further development of the HUN-REN Cloud, and the necessary resources will be available in the forthcoming future. In order to exploit the infrastructure extensively, the cloud application process will be updated, and users will be informed in due time and in full detail on the HUN-REN Cloud website.
